***The "Dawson’s Creek" sweetie-pie (one of my fave actress) is learning the hard way that standing in the blinding light of her A-list amour’s superstardom isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Earlier this week, paparazzi caught Holmes out and about in Los Angeles looking less than camera-ready. Not only was she sporting limp locks and nerd chic eyewear, but she had strange marks around her mouth, prompting the London Daily Mail to wonder whether Tom had been "kissing her a little too passionately." Um, ew.

The latest issues of People and Us Weekly chronicle the early days of their love affair, which reportedly began in April after Tom, 42, called Katie, 26, and asked her to take a business meeting at his office in L.A.

The sit-down lasted four hours, and while Holmes didn’t emerge with a part, she did land a dinner date.

Anyhoo, the duo soon met up for your average, run-of-the-mill first date: a mid-air sushi feast aboard Cruise’s private jet. After the mile-high meal, Tom drove Katie to the beach on his motorcycle.

More wooing followed, which led to their big coming-out party last week in Rome, where Cruise referred to Holmes as "amore mio" ("my love") and shouted, "She is bellissima" to an appreciative crowd.

"She is an extraordinary woman," Tom gushed to Extra. "I’m more than enamored."

But what of those conspiracy theory types who speculate that this is some elaborate PR stunt to promote their upcoming projects ("War of the Worlds" and "Batman Begins," respectively)?

Adds Holmes’ rep to the mag, "She doesn’t want to be the biggest movie star in the world. She just wants to be proud of herself and her work."…oHmygOsh!!!!*=P
